Liverpool Compressor Quick Start Guide

Setup for a tube amplifier without compression:

Set the Input control to zero. Select any ‘C’ position on the Attack control. With signal present raise the Input control and adjust the Output control to adjust levels. Set to required gain.

Setup up for a tube amplifier with adjustable saturation, without compression:

Set the Input control to zero. Select any ‘C’ position on the Attack control. With signal present raise the Input control. As you increase the level of the Input control, the unit will increasingly saturate the signal. Adjust the Output control to control levels to the required gain.

Setup up for compression using only the Input pot:

Set the Input control to zero. Select the appropriate position on the Attack control. Select the appropriate position on the Recovery control. Raise the Input control, with signal present. As you increase the level of the Input control, the unit will start to compress the signal. Adjust the Output control to control Output levels.

Setup up compression using the Input pot and the Threshold pot:

Set the Input control to zero. Select the appropriate position on the Attack control. Select the appropriate position on the Recovery control. With signal present raise the Input control. As you increase the Input control, the unit will start to compress the signal. Then reduce the Input control to lower the amount of compression. Use the Threshold control to increase the amount of compression. As you increase the Threshold control, the compression ratio with slowly change from 2:1 to 4:1. Lower the Input control as you raise the Threshold control to achieve the desired compression amounts and desired ratio. Adjust the Output control to control the Output level.

Setup up for using the “Compression Off” hold mode using the Attack control:

Set the Input control to zero. Select the appropriate position on the Recovery control. With signal present, raise the Input control. As you increase the level of the Input control, the unit will start to compress the signal. Move to any ‘C’ position on the Attack control. The unit will now stop reacting to the increasing signal level and maintain the current compression amount until the Input pot is returned to zero and the Attack control is set to a number selection. Adjust the Output control to control Output levels.

Setup up for using the “HOLD” mode using the Recovery control:

Set the Input control to zero. Select the appropriate position on the Attack control. With signal present, raise the Input control. As you increase the level of the Input control, the unit will start to compress the signal. Move to any ‘H’ position on the Recovery control. The unit will freeze the amount of compression, yet react to any increase in the signal volume. The unit will maintain the compression amount until the Recovery control is returned to any numbered position. Adjust the Output control to control Output levels.

Stereo Link:

Linking two units together to act as a stereo compressor is done by plugging in a ¼ inch, mono cable into the Stereo Link jack on the rear of each unit. Neither unit acts as the MASTER. Set every control, on both units to the same positions. Lower than normal Input control positions are typical, as these levels are combined.
